Lifestyle and challenges of a motorhome in Rügen

The former painter, who broke off his tents in Thuringia seven years ago, is now part of the growing community, the alternative forms of living is now tried out. Ruge has decided not only to choose a simple living environment, but also to gain experience with a unique lifestyle.
The way to the alternative lifestyle
Like many others who pull on the coast, rude was also driven by the longing for sea and freedom. Instead of renting a traditional apartment, he decided to buy an old Mercedes-Benz Citaro for around 10,000 euros and convert it into a motorhome. "A golden cage" - this is how he describes his previous living conditions in Prora, where the rent was over 1000 euros. For a significantly lower amount of around 150 euros a month, he now lives on 30 square meters on a bus that is not an ordinary vehicle, but his home.
Life on the bus: Advantages and challenges
The conversion of the bus only lasted three months and converted the interior into a cozy home with living and sleeping area, kitchenette and a bathroom with shower and toilet. Ruge lives self -sufficient because it is connected to electricity and water, but also has a water storage.
A small wood oven ensures a pleasant warmth on cold days, while a mini-jacuzzi on the roof provides refreshment. On top of that, there is a bicycle garage and even a canoe is ready. However, the fun is clouded by Ruge’s missing bus driver's license, because he is not possible to drive the bus.
A new phase of life?
The 43-year-old comments: "Whenever I arrive somewhere, it drives me away again." He spends the winter months in warm Egypt, but the idea of selling the bus in the coming year and starting new projects does not let go. The search for the ideal partner is difficult; Ruge admits that it is a challenge to inspire someone for this lifestyle.
his emotional bonds for "Goldie", as he calls the bus, are strong, even if the decision for sale seems necessary. He advertised the bus from classified ads, the price is negotiable. This means that Ruge is on a crossroads that could shape its future. In addition to the emotional burden on sales, he is also confronted with the social aspects of his lifestyle, especially when it comes to finding potential partners for a life in the mobile home.
Conclusion: An example of alternative forms of living
Anthony Ruge is not only an example of someone who left conventional life, but also for a trend that attracts more and more people. The decision to live on a bus testifies to a search for freedom and independence in a world that is often shaped by financial constraints.
