Higher car insurance contributions: New rating meets Lower Saxony
Higher car insurance contributions: New rating meets Lower Saxony
In Lower Saxony there is an important change that could affect the financial situation of many drivers. Around 500,000 people who drive a car in this state will be affected by a re -evaluation of the accident risks. This reassessment is expected to lead to higher contributions in motor vehicle liability insurance for many affected ones.
The current analysis of the accident risks is supported by the entire association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV). Accordingly, drivers who live in certain regions could be classified in a higher regional class. These regional classes determine how high the insurance contribution is that the drivers have to pay. In general, the higher the regional class, the more drivers have to go for their insurance. The reassessment primarily affects the cities of Hanover, Lüneburg, Friesland, Goslar and Verden, in which the damage statistics are worse.
regional differences in view
The situation looks particularly unfavorable for drivers in Hanover, because this region has the worst damage balance. This not only brings with it an increase in insurance costs, but also shows the challenges that are opposite to the city. Motor insurance contributions in urban areas are often higher than in rural regions, where fewer traffic and therefore fewer accidents occur. In contrast, around 400,000 drivers in areas such as Oldenburg, Gifhorn and Vechta benefit from lower regional classes and thus lower contributions.
Most drivers in Lower Saxony will not be affected by the increase. Around 2.15 million drivers remain in the lowest regional classes 1 to 3. In addition, there are only marginal adjustments in the comprehensive insurance: a small part of the insured will rise to a higher class, while another part slips into a lower class.
A look at the market conditions
In Bremen, the location of the damage balance remains stable and the regional classes remain low. This shows that there are regional differences that can have a serious effect on the insurance contributions. Bremen comes as a positive example, while large cities such as Hamburg, Berlin or Munich are faced with high regional classes. Class 11 and 12 apply here, which represent a significantly higher burden for drivers.
The general tendency shows that drivers in Lower Saxony have so far paid comparatively low insurance contributions. This reassessment may bring a paradigm shift - even if the majority of the drivers continue to stay in cheap classes.
