Chemistry album in Ahlbeck: Dangered cartridges discovered during construction work!
During construction work at a former Russian military base in Ahlbeck (Vorpommern-Greifswald district), several dangerous cartridges were discovered on Tuesday that contain chemicals. This discovery led to the blocking of the main road to Swinemünde and to the immediate recovery of cartridges by the ammunition recovery service. The approximately 20 cm large cartridges that were exposed for a fire water cistern during the dredging work should contain chlorine and other potentially carcinogenic substances. An excavator driver reported that he felt "how drunk" after the contact, but has now recovered.
The cartridges that are filled as a fog body with hexachlorethane should first be transported to Mellenthin and then to the Bundeswehr site in Munster in Lower Saxony. The fire brigade and police are also on duty to secure the area and to cope with the dangerous situation. The site was evacuated after a farmer discovered the rusty cartridges on his field. Further details are in a report by www.ndr.de to be found.
