EU funding strengthens cross-border cooperation in Western Pomerania
EU funding strengthens cross-border cooperation in Western Pomerania
In the latest development in the field of regional cooperation, the border region between Western Pomerania and Western Pomerania in Poland receives considerable financial support from the EU. A total of around 25 million euros are provided for ten different projects that aim to reduce cultural, linguistic and tourist barriers between the two countries. This is considered a significant step to strengthen the cooperation and promote awareness of the neighboring countries.
Cross-border education initiatives
A particularly remarkable project is the initiative in cooperation with the Polish community of Police and the workers' welfare in Torgelow. The aim is to familiarize around 300 children between the ages of four and six with the Polish language. This should be done through playful approaches in areas such as music, art and gardening. The organizers would like to ensure that the children master a basic vocabulary of at least 200 words and idioms at the end of the project. 740,000 euros are available for this measure.
Promotion of gastronomic vocational training
Another focus is on the joint training of young people in the hospitality industry. This is done by a project by the districts of Vorpommern-Greifswald and Police, which receives 996,000 euros in accordance with the information from the Minister of Economic Affairs. The initiative would like to inspire pupils for professions in cross -border tourism and thus promote the integration of regions in the field of gastronomy.
Digital networking of cultural sites
In the area of cultural promotion, extensive measures are also taken. The cultural centers in Goleniów and Greifswald receive a total of 1.3 million euros in order to digitally prepare the cultural treasures of these institutions. In addition, there are 2.9 million euros for the digitization of stocks in the Greifswald University Library and the Pomeranian public library. This is of great importance, since it not only increases the accessibility of cultural assets, but can also promote the tourist flows into the region.
Strengthening the emergency services and social professions
A project to improve the linguistic skills of emergency services is also promoted. With around 3.2 million euros, the “Naret” project (neighboring language is resuscitated) is supported, in which language acquisition and life rescue are put to the fore. This shows how important it is that in particular in the emergency room there is a clear and precise communication between the emergency services that operate from both countries.
Meaning for the region
These projects are all characterized by the EU strategy to promote cross-border cooperation. The support aims to not only promote economic development, but also to strengthen the cultural and social bonds between Germany and Poland. It can be expected that the cooperation in these areas will not only be important for current generations, but will also stimulate future generations to work closely and grow in the region.
