New era begins: Observatory in Greifswald celebrates reopening and anniversary
A new chapter for the starry in Greifswald
The observation present in Greifswald has finally opened its goals again after a long phase of the renovation. This new beginning marks the beginning of a special anniversary program for the 100th anniversary of the observatory. The reopening is not only a reason to celebrate, but also an opportunity to inspire young people for the fascinating world of nature and technology, as Michael Kaschke, President of the German Research Foundation, emphasized.
The observatory houses a unique telescope that is second to none worldwide, says Tobias Röwf, chairman of the observatory board. "With two telescopes on a assembly in a unique position, the Greifswald observatory is something very special," he explains. The three -meter -long telescope has been restored by a specialist since 2021. Röwf also kept a farewell speech at the event and handed over his position to his successor.
The modernization of the observatory required a total of over 170,000 euros. These were made possible by the financial support of the University of Greifswald, an association and the Zeiss company.
The reopening of the observatory in Greifswald is not only important for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region, but also for the entire scientific field in Germany. The anniversary program for the 100th anniversary of the observatory strives to inspire young people for research, nature and technology. The extensive renovation, which cost over 170,000 euros, was financed by various sources, including the University of Greifswald, an association and the Zeiss.
