Project rewinds Mannhagener Moor for climate and environmental protection
New life in Mannhagener Moor thanks to Katapult MV project
An ambitious environmental protection project has started to revitalize the Mannhagen Moor in Vorpommern-Rügen. The Succow Foundation has started to re-destroy the moor in order to strengthen its ecological importance. The first step was to close an old drainage ditch that had affected the moor. This measure is intended to help bind CO2, to locate rare animal and plant species and to serve as an important habitat.

An uncanny legacy of the colonial past of Germany is shown in the anatomical collections in Rostock and Greifswald. Today, 59 human remains that were brought from former colonies in Germany are kept there. These were often removed without the consent of the relatives and cruelly obtained. The question remains what will happen to these remains and whether they will ever be returned to their home countries.
