Tragic car accident in Liebenstein: drunk driver causes fatal crash

traffic accidents shake Thuringia - drugs and alcohol at the wheel

Two tragic traffic accidents occurred in the idyllic region of Thuringia, which cost an 89-year-old woman the lives and seriously injured two other people. The fact that one of the causers of the accident was under the influence of drugs and alcohol was particularly shocking and was apparently not in possession of a driver's license.

The accused 38-year-old driver was traveling in Liebenstein in the Ilm district on Sunday evening when he tried to overtake another vehicle and lost control. This led to a fatal collision with an oncoming car near Plaue.

The serious consequences

The 62-year-old driver of the other vehicle suffered serious injuries, while the 89-year-old passenger died after the accident in the hospital. The person who caused the accident was also injured and had to be taken to a nearby hospital with a helicopter.

According to the police, the driver had an alcohol content of 2.1 per thousand and reacted positively to drugs such as cannabis and methamphetamine. The property damage incurred is estimated at around 27,000 euros, but the human losses are not to be underweight.

Enlightenment and prevention as urgent measures

Such tragic events underline the importance of information about the risks of alcohol and drug use at the wheel. It is essential that society as a whole is responsible to prevent such traffic accidents and to raise awareness of safe driving.
