Hagen - a dark spectacle of the Nibelungen or just Edeltrash?

Hagen - a dark spectacle of the Nibelungen or just Edeltrash?

The director of the Cyrill Boss and Philipp Stennert brought the classic "Hagen-in the Valley of the Nibelungen" by Wolfgang Hohlbein onto the big screen. In this new interpretation, Hagen, traditionally viewed as a villain, is composed as a loyal weapon smith that is concerned about the empire and the weak king Gunter. The dark scenery emphasizes the conflicts between the characters and celebrates a melancholic, pragmatic view of power and violence.

During honor and heroism, we see Siegfried von Xanten as a leader of a morally questionable group of mercenaries, whose disrespectful appearance at the courtyard quickly leads to tensions. The clashes culmine in an honorable duel between Hagen and Siegfried, deviating from the well-known Nibelung mythology. Despite the appealing staging, "Hagen" remains behind the expectations and is often seen as a noble trash. An epic "Game of Thrones" feeling remains unfulfilled based on lack of courage and financial means.

The film starts on October 17th in the cinemas. More information is available on www.swr.de .
