Stau forecast: Drivers have to be patient on the weekend
Once again, drivers have to strain their nerves this weekend, because the stauchaos is imminent. The main cause of the expected delays is the strong return travel from the popular holiday areas. The ADAC announced this in its latest forecast for traffic disruptions. Many travelers are now returning from their summer vacation, and there is also increasing rush hour traffic that exacerbates the situation.
A central factor for the upcoming traffic jams are the school holidays that end in several federal states. The federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein are particularly affected, where the summer holidays are now officially over. Many vacationers also return in the northern part of the Netherlands. It should be noted that part of Germany will have to expect return travel again this time in another week if Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg end their vacation.
traffic volume and construction sites
With the end of the holiday, there is also an increase in rush hour traffic, which can lead to additional disorders all over Germany. Drivers have to prepare for extended travel times, especially on the heavily frequented highways, which are often affected by construction sites. On average, you should bring a good dose of patience, because traffic jams are inevitable.
For the upcoming weekend there are concrete routes on which a lot of traffic can be expected. These include:
- The motorway network in the metropolitan areas of Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin and Munich.
- The long-distance streets of and to the North and Baltic Sea.
- The A1 from Lübeck via Hamburg, Bremen to Dortmund.
- The A3 Passau towards Nuremberg and Frankfurt.
- The A5 from Basel to Karlsruhe and Frankfurt.
- The A7 from Flensburg to Hamburg and from Würzburg to Ulm.
- The A8 that connects Salzburg with Munich and Stuttgart.
- The A9 between Munich and Nuremberg.
- The Berlin Ring, A10.
- The A19 from Dreieck Wittstock/Dosse to Rostock.
- The A24 from Berlin to Hamburg.
- The A61 Ludwigshafen to Koblenz and Mönchengladbach.
- The A93 from Kufstein to Inntaldreieck.
- The A95/B2 from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
- The A99 that leads around Munich.
In addition to traffic jams in Germany, delays can also be expected abroad. Especially when it comes to return to Germany and Austria, travelers should plan more time, since the holidays also end in the Austrian federal states of Burgenland, Vienna and Lower Austria. It should be noted that the situation is less tense in the opposite direction, i.e. the travelers who drive from Germany to these regions, because less vacationers are on the move.
preparation for bottlenecks
should nevertheless arise, this will be the case in particular on the important traffic axes such as the Tauern, West, Inntal and Brenner motorway as well as on the routes that lead back home from the Italian, French and Croatian coasts. The return trip from Scandinavia, Poland and the Netherlands could also be made more difficult. Drivers should therefore plan enough time for their return trip to get home stress -free. As usual, the seasonal truck driving ban will provide some relief next Saturday, if only for a short time.
traffic jam and patience as a constant companion
In view of the fact that the traffic volume traditionally increases in the summer months, travelers should be well prepared. Relaxed travel could therefore be rather rare this time, especially if you consider the construction sites already mentioned. Drivers do well to inform themselves in good time about the traffic situation and, if necessary, to consider alternative routes.traffic volume and congestion forecasts
The traffic situation on weekends, especially during holiday season, is influenced by various factors. According to the ADAC it is not only the vacation returnees who provide increased traffic. The intersection of return travel and rush hour traffic often leads to traffic jams and long waiting times. Especially the highways that adhere to large cities or popular holiday destinations are often overloaded.
statistical data show that the confidence in the city increases significantly at certain times, such as the end of the holiday in different federal states. In the past, for example, there have been similar situations in recent years when several federal states have ended vacation at the same time, which further heated up traffic.
weather conditions and their effects
Not only human factors influence the traffic conditions. The weather also plays a crucial role. In bad weather, such as rain or strong wind, additional delays can occur. These conditions mean that drivers have to reduce their speed, which further inhibits the flow of traffic. In addition, more traffic accidents can be expected in such weather conditions, which also contributes to congestion development.
An investigation of the German Weather Service shows that extreme weather conditions not only affect security on the streets during the holiday season, but also have a significant impact on the transport organization. For vacationers and commuters, it is therefore advisable to keep an eye on the weather forecasts and plan them accordingly.
