Preparations for bridge construction: New traffic routing from Wednesday

In Waren, an important phase of infrastructure development is imminent, since from Wednesday, September 4, the work for the replacement of the bridges on the Schwerin dam begins. These measures are the result of a long history, which indicates defects that were determined in 2012. In the examinations at the time, the first indications of the pre -damage of the tension steel resulted in, which led to the continuous monitoring of the bridges. The old bridges that were built in 1972 can no longer be repaired, which is why the new building is now being tackled.

The new traffic routing immediately causes some changes in the daily traffic flow. The traffic is now led over the "South" bridge, while the "Nord" bridge remains closed. Cars can continue to turn right into Mecklenburger Straße, but the exit from Mecklenburger Straße and other adjacent roads to the B 192 is no longer possible. For drivers, signs are provided for the detour via Strelitzer Straße.

For pedestrians and cyclists there is good news: the walking and cycle path on the "Süd" bridge remains usable. In addition, the bus stop between Mecklenburger Straße and the music school is moved to the intersection of Mecklenburger Straße. This means that some of the usual routes of the commuters have to adapt.

The bridge construction work is not just a question of traffic adjustment. Due to the proximity to the tracks, cooperation with Deutsche Bahn is required, which will lead to closures of the railway line. These closures that are planned in coordination with the train make the work difficult, but cannot be avoided. The construction period is expected to be around four years and includes a gradual detour of the traffic, both for cars and for pedestrians.

The construction work is divided into two large construction phases. In the first section, the "North" bridge is dismantled, according to which traffic is temporarily diverted via the "Süd" bridge. In the second section, which will be sufficient from 2026 to 2028, the bridge "Süd" will then be dismantled and the new bridge structure will be completed.

The road construction administration, which has already built a reptile protection fence, takes care of the necessary surveillance and protection of the environment. This shows that the focus is always on environmental protection in such projects in order to protect local animal species and not to disturb.
