Hamburg faces massive ferry problems for strikes on Thursday!

The United Service Union (ver.di Hamburg) called up the employees of HADAG Verkehrsdienst GmbH for a 24-hour warning strike. This warning strike will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 4:00 a.m. to Friday, 4:00 a.m.

The strikers will also join a great strike demonstration of the public service employees, which begins on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. on the old Elbe tunnel. The warning strike is a reaction to an offer from the Labor Law Association Hamburg e.V. of February 20, 2025, which provides for a guaranteed wage increase of 7 to 8 % with a term of 36 months. In contrast, ver.di calls for a wage increase of 18 % or at least € 625 with a term of twelve months, as well as an increase of € 350 for trainees and the introduction of additional levels of experience.

demands and next steps

Gabriel Riesner, the negotiator for ver.di Hamburg, criticizes the employer offer and calls for the transfer of one -off payments to regular tariff salaries. HADAG employs around 140 people and is a subsidiary of Hamburger Hochbahn AG, which, however, is under its own house collective agreement. The next negotiations are scheduled for March 3, 2025.

The Situation in the port of Hamburg is also perceived by a broader perspective, since ver.di generally initiates warning strikes in the port industry. This is more precise in a report by Spiegel The effects of these measures on the economy and the affected sectors of the Hanse-Stadt are examined.
