Police check passengers in Hamburg: ban on knife!
In the port of Hamburg, the water protection police carried out an extensive police operation on Wednesday. Passengers from the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV) ships have been subjected to a search since the morning. The reason for this assignment is a newly issued ban on driving weapons and knives in public transport, train stations and stops in Hamburg.
The controls focused in particular on the landing bridges, where the Hadag ferries create. The assignment began at 8:30 a.m. with 18 officials who were divided into several teams to check the investors of the HVV passenger ships. Overall, the officials searched for knives, firearms and cutting and shock weapons.
results of the controls
A first success quickly appeared: a folding knife was secured in a man on the fish market. The knife was drawn in and the police filed a complaint. After five hours of controls, a balance was drawn: a total of 100 passengers were checked and five knives were secured. The police announced that further controls will follow in Hamburg.
The weapon ban extends to different public areas and there are clear exceptions. As on the website of the Police Hamburg , police, Bundeswehr, customs administration and ambulance are excluded from the ban. In addition, residents with a main apartment in the affected area as well as certain trading knives may lead, provided that they are required for specific orders.
