Revolution in Water Recycling: Hamburg Water starts spectacular project!
09.09.2024, 4:54 pm
Hamburg leads the water revolution! The municipal company Hamburg Wasser has put into operation a groundbreaking recycling system in Jenfeld, which prepares gray water from over 830 apartments. Shower, washing and rinsing water are now converted into valuable domestic water- a nationwide unique project that protects fresh water and avoids garbage!
But what exactly is gray water? It is the water that occurs when showering or washing, but is not dirty like waste water from the toilet. This innovative idea could revolutionize the way we deal with water. Hamburg Wasser calls the project a milestone in resource conservation and thus sets up a new chapter in urban development!
big goal: efficient water use
Not only that: The progressive system will prepare up to 12,000 liters of gray water every day. This recovered water goes directly to a neighboring business park, where it is used to fill the toilet rinsing! It is also used when watering the green areas. A perfect circulation that shows how sustainable water management can be!
Hamburg's environmental senator, Jens Kerstan from the Greens, sums it up: "We have to use the tight resource of water even more efficiently and less wasteful and, in addition to the groundwater deposits, explore other water sources as a replacement." A clear call to the action in times when water becomes increasingly precious.
Support by the German Federal Environmental Foundation
The project not only has the potential to change the water supply in Hamburg, it is also supported by the German Federal Environmental Foundation. The costs for the construction of the state -of -the -art facility amount to around 340,000 euros. It remains to be seen how much water can actually be saved by this innovative process. However, one thing is certain - the future of water use in Hamburg is redefined here!
