Revolutionary changes in Hamburg's local transport: Hochbahn relies on a new subway fleet and fully automatic line U5

Mobility in Hamburg takes a new turn: Hamburger Hochbahn AG (Hochbahn), together with Alstom, has concluded a contract for the delivery of 374 brand new subway vehicles. This step marks a milestone for the future of local transport in the Hanseatic city.

The new subway vehicles, which are used as a DT6-F in the existing network and as DT6-A on the new U5 line, not only offer the latest technology, but also rely on sustainability and digitization. With innovative features such as fully automatic control, accessible passenger compartment, modern passenger information systems and even USB charging stations, the DT6 vehicles set new standards in Hamburg's local transport.

In addition to the comfort for passengers, ecological aspects also play an important role. The vehicles were developed taking into account criteria such as weight, energy requirements and supply chains, whereby a high value was placed on sustainability. Alstom is even committed to annual transparency about the sustainability efforts, with a recycling rate of at least 94 percent.

A crucial element in this progress is the CBTC system, which enables fully automatic control of the U5 line and ensures the safety of the train operation. This system not only includes train control, but also the passenger information, the platform doors and communication technology.

The new fleet of subway vehicles will not only expand the capacity of Hamburg's local transport, but also improve comfort, sustainability and digital networking. This step is not only a milestone for the elevator and Alstom, but also for the entire Hamburg community that will benefit from an efficient and modern local transport solution.
