ATM in the forest discovered: police investigate after spectacular theft!
An unusual incident occurred at Segelhorst a few days ago when a hiker discovered a stolen ATM in a difficult to access forest area. The machine was next to a forest path and was only accessible via a steep, snow -covered path. The finder informed the police at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, who subsequently sent investigators from the crime scene group to secure traces at the site.
The ATM that had a weight of around 200 kilograms was stolen on the "Auetal Süd" motorway service area at around 3 a.m. on January 19th. Unknown perpetrators had broken up the machine with brutal violence. The exact amount of the stolen money is currently still unknown. The motorway police recorded the theft while the police in Garbsen processed the case. The police asked the fire brigade from Hessisch Oldendorf to rescue the ATM.
recovery of the ATM
The city fire chief Tobias Ebbighausen explored the location on site and requested a high -terrain special vehicle to raise the heavily used ATMs. Firefighters managed to recover the machine on the same evening and bring to Hameln to the police inspection. It is not the first incident of this kind in the region: in the past, several ATMs have already been blown up, including on October 16, 2024 in Lügde and on March 27, 2024 in Bad Pyrmont.
Another research on the subject shows that slot machines have become increasingly active in recent years. The destruction of the ATMs often happens by the use of explosives, whereby the perpetrators are mainly interested in small cash cassettes. Such deeds are no longer only regarded as simple thefts, but are particularly serious. The minimum penalty for the exploitation of an ATM is three months in prison, while rough-rabbitious theft can be punished with up to 15 years, such as anwal.de reported.
