The total cost of the renovation amounts to around 120,000 euros, with about half being financed by the church circle. The rest comes from a sale of the rectory, the church bag and the support from the Windergie community foundation. The concerns about the preservation of the village church are no longer present in Hohnsen, since the renovation is considered a significant investment in the religious and cultural heritage of the ancestors.

The St. Petri Church has a long and eventful story that goes back to the 14th century. She survived the Thirty Years' War and was rebuilt in 1807 due to dilapidation. A special epitaph is reminiscent of Pastor Lindemann (1591-1674) and his wife Isolde, who died at the age of 27. The last outdoor renovation dates to 1985.

The St. Petri Church was initially unused after the Reformation before it was set up as a church in 1585. It is directly subordinate to the crown and receives financial support.
