Discover Hamm: monuments and stories at the day of the open monument

Hamm plans to take part in the Europe -wide "Day of the Open Monument" this year, which will take place on Sunday, September 8th. This year the event is under the motto "True sign. Contemporary witnesses in history".

A total of 14 important buildings that represent over 1000 years of history will be visited in Hamm. The most outstanding included the main train station and the historic castle hill Mark, which is considered the cradle of the city. The event not only offers a look at well -known landmarks, but is also illuminated unknown facets and stories about the monuments. The tours are free of charge and start from 11 a.m. at all locations involved. In the afternoon there is a concert in the St. Victor Church in Herringen, which is a special cultural incentive.

Mining history in focus

A central part of the monument day is the contemporary history of mining in Hamm. A striking symbol of this era is the glass elephant in Maxipark, which once belonged to the Maximilian colliery. A special tour on the Radbod colliery from 2 p.m. is also offered here. The creative area picks up speed at 11 a.m., followed by various tours, lectures and a musical supporting program in the afternoon, which makes the day a festival of history and culture.
