Griffin tongs from Hamm: Together against the garbage island in Mazatlán!
Mazatlán, Mexiko - The city of Hamm supports the volunteer garbage collectors in their twin town Mazatlán, Mexico, with the delivery of ten gripping tongs. These devices facilitate the tedious cleaning of the so -called "Isla Basura", a heavily shrilled mangrove island that is regularly affected by floods. Although the water goes back, the waste remains and gets caught in vegetation. Hannah Düwell, an activist born in Hamm, estimates the new equipment and says: "We are pleased that we can now do this important task more easily and faster."
In addition to the gripping pliers, the volunteers want swimming barriers in the future, who are supposed to keep the garbage away from the island in the Pacific and simplify the collection of the accumulated unrest. Hamm has been part of an international project for municipal sustainability since 2022, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The exchange between cities focuses on waste prevention and recycling, with the aim of developing innovative solutions for the waste problem. Further information offers www.lippewelle.de .
