New green in North Rhine-Westphalia: The restoration of nature
Summer is bringing an unexpected change in North Rhine-Westphalia this year. Instead of dryed vegetation, people enjoy lush green on the meadows and lush leaves in the parks. This green splendor invites you to relaxed walks and picnic outdoor picnic, but it also has a deeper meaning.
The color psychologist Karsten Homann from Hamm explains that the calm and determined growth of nature causes a certain serenity and slowness in us this year. At a time that is often shaped by hustle and bustle, the gentle growth reminds us to tackle everything a little more leisurely.
The green nature thanks to the many rain
The main reason for the lush green in North Rhine-Westphalia is in the above-average rainfall of the past twelve months. According to the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia (LANUV), it rained more every month than usual, which led to a total of 1,293 millimeters.
This plus of 53 percent compared to the long-term means has not only recovered the floors, but also the groundwater stocks in NRW from the drought summer of the past few years. Although the many rain also had some unpleasant consequences such as full basement, we can now enjoy the positive effects on nature.
