Easy increase in unemployment in Hamm: Hope for seasonal revival

In August 2024, the employment agency reported a slight increase in unemployment in Hamm, which influenced the region. Despite the terrifying figures, the managing director of the agency, Thomas Keyen, remains optimistic about the future development of the labor market. This increase is primarily due to the summer vacation and the general economic weakness that affects the employment situation noticeably.

The current statistics show that the number of unemployed by 209 people increase to a total of 8459, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 8.8 percent. This is an increase of 0.2 points compared to the previous month. However, these figures are not completely surprising, since similar trends have been observed in August in August.

Influence of training on unemployment

A possible reason for the increase could be the high number of new unemployed people who report after completing training programs. These are often young graduates with a migration background. Keyen pointed out that it is important that unskilled people are advised to continue their education in order to improve their chances on the labor market. "The demand for skilled workers is available, but there are more than half of the advertised positions for highly qualified ones," he said.

The positive aspect is that the dynamics on the labor market has increased again. Keyen was confident that the situation could tend to improve against the background of an upcoming seasonal revitalization and attached great importance to the need for qualifications for job seekers.

Another aspect of the current labor market situation in Hamm is the different distribution of unemployed people between the employment agency and the municipal job center. While 2271 unemployed came to the agency, there were 6188 people at the job center. This shows how complex the challenges on the job market are and that different institutions have to react to it.

in particular young people particularly affected

An alarming point in the current statistics is the increase in unemployment among young people. Here the number increased by 10.8 percent, i.e. 86 people to a total of 879. This gives the impression that young people in particular face greater challenges when looking for a job. The long -term unemployment is also as high as ever, with 3940 long -term unemployed. There is also a significant increase in foreign unemployed, the number of which has risen by 4.2 percent to 3082.

The agency also carries out statistical surveys to the number of unemployed with severe disabilities. Of these, 666 people were registered in August, which represents an increase of 12.5 percent compared to the previous year. These figures make it clear that the problem of unemployment in Hamm is complex and has to be addressed on different fronts.

Overall, the situation in Hamm shows that the job market is in a critical phase. With increasing new news from unemployed and the challenges in front of which young people in particular are facing, it will be crucial to implement suitable measures to combat unemployment. The hope of an early improvement remains, but it requires concrete steps towards qualification and support for all unemployed.
