New residential area in Hamm: winner design from Dortmund and Essen

A new chapter for Bockum: Large new building project in Hamm

In the Bockum-Hövel district in Hamm, one of the largest new development areas in the region is being built. This ambitious project is not only a sign of the attraction of the city, but also has the potential to change the social structure and the infrastructure significantly.

urban competition as the basis

As part of an urban planning competition, a concept was selected by the planning office Post Welters + Partner from Dortmund and DTP landscape architects from Essen. This concept forms the basis for the development plan, which is intended to create up to 500 new residential units. Among them are around 30 percent of publicly funded apartments, which will promote the social mix of the new neighborhood.

sustainability in focus

An important aspect of the project is to take environmentally friendly solutions into account. In order to deal with the challenges of climate change, such as heat load and heavy rain, innovative approaches to use alternative energy sources are to be examined. This is particularly important for future generations to live in a safe and healthy environment.

The design of the new residential complex

The architectural concept provides for the creation of several courtyards, in which different forms of living such as single -family houses, row houses and apartment buildings are harmoniously integrated. These courtyards are not only functional, but also promote neighborly cooperation by creating a central meeting place. The plan divides the entire district into two larger areas connected by a public green area.

Citizen participation and information

For the residents there is the possibility to find out about the progress of the project. By August 16, the results of the competition in the anteroom of the meeting room of the Bockum-Hövel district representative can be viewed. A citizens' meeting will be planned in autumn to actively involve the population. This shows the endeavor of the city to include the opinions and needs of citizens in the development process.

outlook on the implementation

The planning stipulates that with the optimal course and successful marketing of the land, the first construction work could begin in late 2026. The new development plan will be presented in the Council, whereby the current planning allows up to six -story development. This project could not only contribute to the creation of urgently needed apartments, but also to strengthen the infrastructure and social cohesion in Bockum.
