Broadcasting contribution under pressure: Dispute between the countries is heading!
After months of heated debates, the prime ministers are about to vote on the broadcasting contribution shortly before a decisive vote. On Friday, a decision on a possibly upcoming increase and a fundamental reform of the public service broadcast will be expected. The current contribution is 18.36 euros per month, but experts recommend an increase of 58 cents to 18.94 euros - however, an agreement between the countries seems excluded. Differences between the federal states, in particular Saxony-Anhalt and Bavaria, which reject an increase, and other countries that require adaptation increase the uncertainty.
As part of the reform, media houses should be better structured in order to save costs. Among other things, the abolition of smaller TV channels and a reduction in radio programs are planned. Lower Saxony Prime Minister Stephan Weil was optimistic that a clever position can be found, but realizes that the upcoming negotiations are a real task of thinking. If an agreement is missing, the case could be returned to the Federal Constitutional Court again, as already in 2021. Further information on this exciting topic can be found at www.lippewelle.de .
