Tragedy in Jablanica: 16 dead after devastating floods!

In Bosnia-Herzegovina, the search campaigns run for missing and possible fatalities after violent floods have hit the mountain village of Jablanica, about 30 kilometers north of Mostar. The forces of nature caused large boulders to fall from a quarry above the village to the houses and buried them under themselves. The authorities have currently corrected the number of fatalities from originally 18 to 16 because some cases were recorded twice. 12 people died in Jablanica, while four more deaths can be complained in other places.

The police are now investigating whether the technical conditions of the quarry have contributed to the accident in Jablanica. Traffic routes are temporarily impassable because the water has removed the earth under the railway rails. Disaster protectors use boats to bring those affected to safety, while the intensity of the water masses and the mudslide continue to keep the situation critical.
