Accidental pedelecists in Hamm: two children injured

In the past few days, two worrying incidents have occurred in Hamm, in which pedelecists were involved in accidents and then removed from the scene of the accident. These incidents throw a light on the dangers in road traffic, especially when electrical bicycles are involved.

The first incident occurred on September 8, when a 68-year-old pedelecist hit a two-year-old child on Merschstrasse in Bockum-Hövel. The toddler was about to cross the street when the collision came. Fortunately, the boy only suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hammer hospital for further treatment. The pedelecist, on the other hand, simply continued his journey after the accident, but was later caught up by the child's father. The police took the driver into custody after a breath alcohol test showed that he was on the road with a value of just over 0.8 per thousand. A blood sample was taken from him in the Bockum-Hövel police station.

Another accident with escape

Another incident that took place on September 6 affects a previously unknown pedelecist who grazed a Mercedes driver at the Dortmunder Strasse / Zechenweg intersection in Hamm-Mitte. This driver had stopped at the confluence due to a backlog when the pedelecist hit the back part of the Mercedes with his handlebar. The pedelecist initially drove on, which led to the driver that the driver was able to follow him briefly, but soon lost visual contact. This fleeting is described as male and between 22 and 30 years old. It was about 170 cm tall and wore gray work clothes and a gray cap. The bike, a pedelec of the Cube brand with striking orange shock absorbers, was equipped with saddlebags. The property damage incurred is estimated at around 1,000 euros. Witnesses are asked to report to the Hamm police.

The accumulation of such accidents raises questions about the responsibility of pedelecists. In the past, the dangerous incidents have already led to public discussions, especially in connection with a serious accident, which took place at the end of August between a pedelecist and a nine -year -old girl in the Hallohpark. Here, too, the safety of cyclists and pedestrians was a central topic.

The police asked the public to help identify the fleeting cyclists and clarify their actions. It remains to be hoped that such incidents can be avoided in the future and that both cyclists and drivers show more mindfulness in road traffic.
