Hanover starts the first cannabis model project for citizens nationwide!

In a pioneering decision for the Hanoverian cannabis landscape, the city plans to introduce a model project that should enable the legal acquisition of THC-containing products from the beginning of 2025. Mayor Belit Onay (Greens) presented the pilot project, which is carried out in cooperation with Frankfurt and Sanity Group GmbH - which is already active in Switzerland. Up to three sales outlets are planned, where around 4,000 participating adults who live in Hanover and are over 18 years old can cover their needs for hashish or cannabis flowers in set quantities.

The five -year project is accompanied by a team of researchers from the Hanover Medical School, which is intended to document consumption habits and the effects on society. Onay emphasizes that bans only work to a limited extent and that the knowledge from this study could make an important contribution to future political decisions. To prevent abuse, each participant will receive a pseudonymized ID; Anyone who buys to pass on is excluded from the project. Details for further participation are still pending, reports www.ndr.de .
