New basketball field at Welfenplatz: fun for Hanover!

A newly designed basketball field was opened on October 4 at the Welfenplatz in Hanover. District Mayor Thorsten Baumert and the business and environmental department Anja Ritschel celebrated the opening after around ten weeks of construction. The space, now equipped with high-quality basket systems and marked playing fields, offers space for the increasingly popular basketball game in 3 × 3 format. Anja Ritschel announced that this is already the fourth place in the city according to international standards, with another planned for 2025.

The old soccer field was specially converted and upgraded with an attractive graffiti art by artist Jonas Wömpner. The adjustments were financed by the environmental and city green department and in cooperation with the housing association Gundlach Bau und Immobilien GmbH. The chairman of the "Our Court" association, Arthur Zaletskiy, was committed to ensuring that the conversions were carried out in accordance with the criteria of the German Basketball Association. According to Ritschel, the interest in basketball continues through the success of the Olympics in Paris, which should help the districts to make a living basketball sports offer.
