South bridge in Hanover: From October 28, traffic will roll over the new one!

Hannover, Deutschland - On October 28, the new replacement bridge over Hildesheimer Straße in Hanover will be released after the old Südschnellweg has been rebuilt over a period of one and a half years. The construction work is about to finish, with the necessary tasks such as attaching guardrails and road markings. Reinmar Wunderling, project manager of the State Authority for Road Construction, emphasizes that you lie on schedule, although the project was delayed by both complaints and unexpected difficulties.

The old bridge, which had to be reinforced, will be permanently monitored by sensors in the future. During the building of the replacement bridge, there was an alarm when a sensor pointed to a potentially dangerous crack, which, however, turned out to be a mistake. This could have leaded to massive traffic disruptions, comparable to the collapse of the Carol Bridge in Dresden. The new bridge will initially offer a lane in every direction before further expansion measures are planned to improve the traffic flow in the future. The official inauguration will take place on October 28 at 2 p.m., followed by the traffic release in the late afternoon after the bridge is previously closed for the changeover.
