New adventure for the whole family: open outdoor area of the steam locomotive workshop in Wernigerode
Wernigerode. The reopening in Wernigerode not only promises joy for families, but also a deep insight into the fascinating world of steam locomotives.
new outdoor area for families and adventurous
On July 19, 2024, Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH (HSB) opened the new outdoor area of the steam locomotive workshop in Wernigerode. This attraction stands out through innovative play opportunities and learning offers and is aimed at visitors of all ages. Numerous top -class guests were present at the opening ceremony, including State Secretary Stefanie Pötzsch, the member of the Bundestag Heike Brehmer, District Administrator Thomas Balcerowski and Mayor Tobias Kascha, all of whom highlighted the importance of this tourist expansion.
interactive attractions and experiences for children
The redesigned outdoor area is right next to the steam locomotive workshop and offers a variety of attractions: innovatively designed learning play walls, an exciting water playground and play equipment in the form of steam trains make children's hearts beat faster. A photo wall that represents the "Brocken gang" provides particularly funny memory photos.
- water and learning stations: Interactive elements related to steam locomotives promote playful learning.
- food trucks: On selected days, the gastronomic offer is supplemented by "food trucks".
- Parking: The new facility offers sufficient parking spaces for cars and storage options for bicycles.
opening times and accessibility
The visitor area of the steam locomotive workshop is now open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To ensure easy access, a new stop of the "Wernigeröder Schlossbahn" was set up, which offers visitors a comfortable access to this attraction.
a win for Wernigerode and the region
The opening of the outdoor area is seen as an important step to promote tourism in Wernigerode. The initiative was made possible with financial support from the State of Saxony-Anhalt and now offers a unique opportunity to discover the fascination for steam locomotives. Against the background of this new attraction, the “Steamwaden No. 6” previously operated on Westernstrasse is also closed to concentrate on the sales area in the steam locomotive workshop.
With this expansion, Wernigerode establishes itself as an attractive goal for families and steam locomotives. The new outdoor area is therefore viewed not only as a playground, but also as a place of learning, which brings generations together and awakens the love for the traditional steam-moving railway.- Nag
