New Gneisenaubrücke: Car -free connection for 11,000 cyclists in Heidelberg
Heidelberg follows the expansion of sustainable traffic routes with a new project that will use both cyclists and pedestrians. The Gneisenaubrücke will create a direct and obstacle -free connection between the districts of Bahnstadt and Bergheim from spring 2025.
a bridge for the future: sustainable mobility in Heidelberg
With the planned Gneisenaubrücke, a significant step in urban development is promoted, which not only optimizes the flow of traffic, but also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions. The bridge that will have a length of 128 meters is equipped with a six -meter -wide road that offers cyclists and pedestrians separate paths, which significantly improves safety and comfort during use.
Financial support from the state
The construction of the bridge is funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg with more than 13.75 million euros, which covers around 75% of the expected total costs of around 19 million euros. State Secretary Elke Zimmer handed the funding notice to Jürgen Odszuck, the first mayor of Heidelberg. Zimmer emphasized the importance of the project as an example of sustainable mobility and the need to improve foot and cycling routes in the region by 2030.
connection to new cycling speeds
The Gneisenaubrücke will also act as a key connection between three planned cycle of cycle paths: Heidelberg-Mannheim, Heidelberg-Schwetzingen and Heidelberg-Wiesloch-Walldorf. This network integration will not only simplify mobility within Heidelberg, but also contribute to a national improvement in bicycle traffic.
long -term perspectives for climate protection
An important goal of the city of Heidelberg is to create a sustainable transport infrastructure through the construction of the Gneisenaubrücke and a planned Neckarbrücke, which serves to protect climate protection. By connecting to the Campus site Neuenheimer Feld (University Hospital), bicycle traffic in this region is significantly promoted. This measure shows that the city is proactively working to improve the quality of life and the environment.
The way to the future
The Gneisenaubrücke will be supplemented by a new bridge over the Neckar in 2027. This further optimizes the inner -city connection. The city of Heidelberg is grateful for the generous support and is confident that this project will not only boost cycling traffic, but will also make a positive contribution to environmentally conscious mobility.
Further information on the project is available on the official project page of the city of Heidelberg.
