Warning strikes in the port of Hamburg: Union increases pressure on employers
laying of work in the port of Hamburg for enforcing fair wages
The port of Hamburg is again the focus of a warning strike organized by the Verdi union. The employees started on Tuesday to strike the first shift at 6.30 a.m. The warning strike campaign should extend over two days, accompanied by a planned demonstration on Wednesday.
The Verdi union uses these all -day warning strikes as a means of pressure in order to achieve better working conditions in the ongoing collective bargaining for the employees in seaports. The claims include a retrospective increase in hourly wages by three euros from June 1st and a corresponding adjustment of the layer surcharges with a contract term of twelve months.
Another negotiation date between Verdi and the Central Association of the German Sea port companies (ZDS) is planned for July 11th and 12th in Bremen. Already last June there were warning strikes in various north German ports, including in Hamburg.
The industrial action in the port of Hamburg illustrates the importance of fair wages and working conditions for employees in the logistics and harbor industry. The union is actively committed to the interests of the workers and shows that their commitment to fair remuneration and appropriate surcharges is still of great relevance.
