Tragic storm in Bosnia: villages under rubble buried, 16 deaths!
In Bosnia-Herzegovina, the search campaigns run for possible victims of the recent floods, which caused a devastating damage two days ago. The mountain village of Jablanica, about 30 kilometers north of Mostar, where heavy rains and storms produced massive scree avalanches from a nearby quarry that buried many houses. The authorities now reported 16 confirmed deaths, including 12 from Jablanica. This number was corrected after a review, since some incidents had been recorded twice, said Nermin Niksic, head of government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBIH).
The police now determine whether the technical state of the quarry has contributed to the tragedy, since the circumstances clearly indicate a structural collapse. In the meantime, country roads remained impassable at times, and the disaster protectors used boats to bring people from the flood areas to safety. The situation remains tense, while rescue teams are still in use to cope with the effects of this natural disaster. Further information can be found at www.radioherne.de .
