Severe weather warning in Herne: Free baths close due to the risk of thunderstorms
Herne. The city of Herne is currently experiencing extremely high temperatures that lead to a high number of visitors in the outdoor pools. However, this situation has taken an unexpected turn with an impending severe weather warning.
Visitor numbers in the outdoor pools rise rapids
The enormous temperatures have made the outdoor pools in Herne a preferred goal for the population. On Monday, August 12, around 6,300 people visited the three swimming pools - a clear increase compared to the usual 1500 guests on a summer day. This shows how important the swimming opportunities for the community are in hot times.
warnings and their effects on the company
On Tuesday afternoon, August 13, the city received a severe weather warning and the first lightning was reported. As a result of this warning, the pool company decided to close the outdoor pools Südpool, Lago and Wananas and send all visitors home. Lothar Przybyl, the bathing director, emphasized that there should be no panic and that the bathrooms would be cleared in peace. Usually the outdoor pools would open until 8 p.m., which means that the sudden closure hit many unexpectedly.
The role of supervision during the high season
Despite the high crowds in the previous days, there have been no significant incidents. In order to ensure security, the staff in the bathrooms was temporarily reinforced. This includes both the supervisors and the security services that are particularly necessary during peak times. "The team is standing," said Przybyl, referring to the willingness of the staff to ensure an orderly process even in hectic situations.
beverage sales are booming
In times of extreme heat, the drinks in the outdoor pools went "path like warm cakes", which indicates the high demand. Due to the large rush, it had to be reordered to cover the need. Such sales peaks show how such weather conditions influence leisure behavior and the economy in Herne.
