Heroic deeds in Breitenfelde: Three men stop knife attack and save life!
On March 25, 2025, three men from the Duchy of Lauenburg were honored for their brave commitment to a knife attack in Breitenfelde. The rescue medal on the ribbon was presented by Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU). Oliver Gahl from Mölln, Torsten Stern from Bälau and Raphael Wiencierz from Bäk, received the award in June 2023 when an attacker injured a woman and her partner with a life -threatening.
The tragic incident occurred in a public parking lot, where the 52-year-old attacker initially attacked his ex-wife's 45-year-old partner. The victim was able to flee to a nearby petrol station, but followed the perpetrator of the 37-year-old ex-wife and stabbed her about 200 meters from the first crime scene. Both were seriously injured in the attack and had to be flown in clinics with rescue helicopters. Thanks to the immediate intervention of the honored men, it was possible to stop the attacker and take care of the primary care of the injured woman, which was subsequently recognized as a heroic effort for which the rescue medal is awarded.
