Holzminden policeman fulfills dream: service on Borkum!

Jens-Peter Meffert, a 59-year-old police officer from Holzminden, served on Borkum for four weeks in July, where he combined his personal and professional passion. As a seasonal police officer, Meffert, who is known in the Region as a friendly contact officer, experienced a new perspective on the island, which he describes as his "family island". With previous skepticism that had to be overcome by his family, he took up the service as a contact officer in a team of six police officers who supported the 14 members of the island police. During his time on Borkum, he accompanied regular strips and was on foot as well as with an e-bike and police vehicle.

His missions were largely unspectacular, but still remembrance: he saved a tourist who had fled to a tree for fear of Galloway cattle and was involved in a prevented incident at a beach party with 3,000 visitors. In addition, Meffert was involved in prevention by addressing children with a holiday pass program in his free time and bringing police work closer to them. Despite the intensive shift service, he found the time on the island quite fulfilling and described it as one of the most beautiful times of his 43-year service.
