Tankslaster starts flames at Eschershausen - B64 closed!
on Tuesday evening, March 12, 2025, there was a serious incident on the federal road 64 near Eschershausen, Holzminden district when a tank coat with 33,000 liters of fuel caught fire. The cause of the devastating fire was identified as a blocked oil line.
The 62-year-old driver of the truck noticed a problem while driving and parked his vehicle on the side of the road. The fire quickly spread from the cab in the direction of the trailer, whereby the trailer on the upper side burst and a hole above the filling. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the emergency services, water cannons and foam could prevent the fuel from going up in flames. The surrounding local fire brigades were employed for several hours.

The fire was badly damaged by the B64 road, which is why comprehensive renovation work is necessary. The incident also required the use of numerous firefighters who were active in the region.

The driver, a 71-year-old man from the Osnabrück area, was also unharmed. The truck had got on the unpaved roadside, overturned and crashed into a street tree. Despite the dramatic incident, the driver was able to save himself in time while his cab was on fire. The total damage was estimated at around 80,000 euros.
The fire brigade was also in use in this case to protect 800 liters of diesel in the tanks from the fire, and the B64 had to be closed until the evening, while detours were set up. Here, too, a total of 43 emergency services, two ambulances and the police were on site.
