New electric car model threatens Audi plant in Brussels
The future of the Audi plant in Brussels is on shaky legs. The main reason for this is the poor performance of the electrical Q8 e-tron family, which is produced there. With around 3000 employees, the work is now facing an uncertain future.
The reason for the considerations of Audi to end the production of the Q8 E-Tron and Q8 Sportback e-tron in Brussels prematurely lies in a sharp decline in demand for these models. These structural problems and the associated high production costs make the Brussels location increasingly unprofitable.
Although Audi emphasizes that the announcement to restructure the work is not yet a final decision, the employees in Brussels and the head of the work, Volker German, are concerned. The VW Group works council calls for a sustainable solution for the work and its employees.
It remains to be seen how long the process of restructuring will last. In similar cases in the past, comparable processes of a few months to almost a year took. The future of the Audi plant in Brussels therefore remains uncertain for the time being.
