Ingolstadt is expanding district heating network for reliable supply and new customers by 2024
Investment in the future: Expansion of the district heating network in Ingolstadt
The Stadtwerke Ingolstadt (SWI) announces that the district heating network in the city will be expanded to ensure reliable care and achieve new customers. This expansion requires extensive construction work that is necessary to expand the network in the city center.
improvement in security of supply
A central step in this expansion project is the establishment of a district heating station in the part of the electricity switching house in the street Am Münzbergtor, which is no longer used. The conversion of the building creates space for two heat exchangers and a network pump to expand the supply capacities and optimize the heating output.
implementation in four construction phases
The new line to connect the station is expected to be realized in four construction phases, starting from Träntorstraße via Donaustraße along the street Am Münzbergtor. There is also a connection to the existing network in Preysingstrasse. The construction work is expected to take a period until November 2024.
At the moment, the municipal utilities are already active in the street Am Münzbergtor, which has to be locked, as well as in the first half of Donaustraße, which is partially closed. These construction phases are expected to be completed in early August. Furthermore, work in Wagnerwirtsgasse until mid -August to advance the expansion.
Continuation of the construction work
In August, the crossing of the second half of Donaustrasse is planned, followed by the continuation of the construction site in Träntorstrasse, which must be completely blocked. This section is expected to be completed by the end of November to further optimize the supply capacity and to distribute the heating energy efficiently.
The district heating network plays a crucial role in heat supply in Ingolstadt by transporting heat energy in the form of hot water. Much of this energy is obtained from the previously unused waste heat of the Gunvor refinery and the waste use system, which makes the expansion of the district heating network a sustainable and future-oriented investment.
