Tragic bathing accident in Neuburg: search for two missing persons

In Neuburg an der Donau, a tragic bathing accident caused the mind and steamed the hope of the relatives of the missing person. Last Friday evening, two students were missed in a bad accident in the Danube after walking into the water with a third fellow student. The situation quickly escalated when the two young men who studied at the Technical University of Ingolstadt (Thi) were in need.

The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. when passers -by heard a call for help from the Schlösslwiese. The 23-year-old in need of rescue, a fellow student of the missing person, was in great danger and was desperately held on a bush. While the alarmed rescue workers successfully pulled him out of the water, the other two students, a 20-year-old from Zimbabwe and a 22-year-old from Sri Lanka, initially disappeared.

search measures and their setting

The local police officers who immediately informed immediately initiated an extensive search. Over 50 emergency services from Wasserwacht, Fire Brigade, Technical Aid Agency (THW) and German Life Rescue Society (DLRG) were deployed. With the help of boats, sonar technology and even a police helicopter, the Danube was carefully searched by the Schlösslwiese to the Bergheim Stausta. Everything was thrown into the balance to help the two missing men.

Unfortunately, the search was unsuccessful. After the dawn used, the first phase of the measures was canceled on Saturday night. The search was resumed on Saturday, and even specially trained search dogs were used to detect the smell of funerals on the water. But at 8:00 p.m. the same evening, the police announced that the search was finally discontinued, since the probability was found to be underestimated as low.

According to the Ingolstadt technical university, the two missing first semesters are in the Bachelor's degree "Sustainable Civil Engineering". The accident not only hit the families of the missing students, but also the entire university community. Professor Walter Schober, President of the THI, expressed his deep sympathy and emphasized: "We are dismayed and sad that two of our students have an accident in such a tragic way."

emotional reactions and support

The university has spoken out their deepest sympathy for relatives and friends of the missing people and formulated thanks to the emergency services for their tireless efforts. The THI said that many students who live on the campus in the dormitory will receive psychological support. These tragic developments illustrate the vulnerability of life and deep emotions that can arise in such difficult situations.

The event leaves the question open how important it is to pay attention to safety when bathing in times of heat and summer conditions. It reminds us that a convenience like swimming outdoors also involves risks that should not be underestimated. While the friends and relatives put together support in their mourning processes, the Schi remains a support for the students concerned.

The search for the missing students has caused emotional reactions nationwide. The grief for these two promising young men who were only at the beginning of their academic career is an integral part of the heart of the university members.
