Emergency forces practice dramatic rescue campaigns in the Jena Junician tunnel!
In a spectacular large exercise in the Jagdberg tunnel near Jena, over 300 emergency services from the fire brigade and emergency services tested their skills under extreme conditions. The exercise, which has been the first of its kind since the traffic release of the second tunnel tube in 2014, promoted the participants to rapid decisions in triage and rescue, while 100 extras, especially medical students at the University of Jena, acted realistically as injured. While the northern tubes of the tunnel were used over three kilometers, the rescuers experienced an intensive training scenario with simulated vehicle fires and real fire tests.
In the night of Sunday, the emergency services not only had to deal with fake wounds and shocking screams, but also mastered real challenges. A car caught fire, and the central operating control center quickly managed the extinguishing and smear-out measures, causing the fire to be deleted quickly. At the responsible authorities, under which Jena Mayor Thomas Nitzsche was also present, the exercise showed itself as a valuable opportunity to strengthen the cooperation of the different security organizations. The A4 was closed in both directions for ten hours during the event to ensure realistic conditions.
