A look behind the scenes: Udo Jung accompanies wheelchair basketball players in Paris
The Paralympic Games in Paris have started and the atmosphere on site is probably unique. Udo Jung, a committed technician from the Kusel district, has the chance to take a look behind the scenes of the wheelchair basketball team of German women and to be at their side during the competition. In his full -time role as a multi -technician in the SWR Studio Kaiserslautern, he ensures that the wheelchairs of the Doneck Dolphins basketball club from Trier are in good condition. At the current Paralympics, he has the special task of accompanying the girls from Trier.
Arrived on Saturday, Jung experienced an impressive scenery when entering the Paralympic Village. "It was like a security check at the airport," he describes. The excitement was tangible when he entered the village in which every house is adorned with flags of the participating countries. "It's just wonderful to be here. The preparations are perfect." Despite the initial confusion when finding his accommodation, he quickly felt welcome and impressed by the effortless organization. The opening ceremony and the mood in the village
The large -scale opening ceremony of the Paralympics was a highlight if Udo Jung could not personally participate. "Only our players were allowed to go in with a limited number of team members," he explains, while watching the celebration from a canvas in the village. His team was proud to run as a fourth team. "It was a mega experience to see her there, even if we could only watch from afar," added Jung.
In the Paralympic village itself, the mood among the athletes has strengthened enormously, the more participants arrived. Jung reports on the long paths and the lively atmosphere that shapes the village. "There is a lot to discover: from sports facilities to a beach bar in front of our house," he says enthusiastically. In particular, the exchange with the athletes of other nations is one of the greatest joys in this environment. "We collect pins from the different countries and this will quickly get in touch with the athletes from all over the world", Jung describes the popular custom in the German House.
preparation for the first game
The anticipation for the first game of the German wheelchair basketball women on Friday is noticeable, but a hint of nervousness is also in the air. Udo Jung will play a central role, because after all, every wheelchair must be available in time. "It is a great responsibility. If something goes wrong, a player could hinder it and bring the team into trouble," he says. The pressure is growing because the athletes have worked hard for this moment. "Four years preparation and then everything in one game", Jung summarizes the challenges.
"It is a unique journey that has started to come to Paris, and the goal is now tangible," emphasizes the committed technician. "Yes, we absolutely want a medal, but that's the next step." Udo boys use, as a technician and supporter for the scanning work of the team, has an important status, especially for the athletes, while preparing for the competitions.
The Paralympics not only offer a stage for the athletes, but also fascinating insights into the dynamic and emotional moments that take place behind the scenes. Udo Jung is part of this special world and, thanks to its role, can experience the environment of sport up close.
