New constituency in Rhineland-Palatinate: Effects on the community

In Rhineland-Palatinate, changes in the constituency division are imminent. This step is necessary to ensure the equality of the right to vote, since the number of voters in the individual constituencies should be almost the same. This means that the Lambrecht Association is separated from the previous constituency 43/Neustadt and assigned to constituency 45/Kaiserslautern II. In addition to the municipalities of Enkenbach-Alsenborn, Otterbach and Otterberg, the constituency 45 also includes parts of the city of Kaiserslautern.

The planned cut has triggered resentment among local politicians and the population on site. In a meeting of the association council, considerations were made to start a petition against the changes. Association Mayor Gernot Kuhn emphasized the need to tackle the project together, although time is very scarce. The summer vacation is imminent and the adoption of the law in the state parliament is expected after the break. The changes should come into force the next day after the law was announced.

We have asked Thomas Wansch, member of the state parliament (MDL) and representative of the constituency 45, Kaiserslautern II, to his opinion on the situation.

Thomas Wansch on the new cut of the constituency

"The constituency 45 is already united urban and rural areas. It is less homogeneous than other constituencies. The planned merger will be a new challenge. From my experience, I know that the citizens of VG Lambrecht are more likely to be based on Neustadt or Bad Dürkheim. Nevertheless should.

In order to overcome the structural obstacles, it is important to me and the SPD to quickly establish and deepen contacts. Meetings will take place with the comrades from the constituency and the VG Lambrecht. The nomination of a suitable candidate is also planned. I am convinced that we will overcome the initial difficulties and that the voters can offer the voters an excellent alternative for the 2026 state elections in the new constituency. ”
