Opel employees in Kaiserslautern: Warning strike for higher wages!
Around 1,000 Opel employees at the Kaiserslautern location went on strike for better working conditions on Tuesday morning. IG Metall calls for a wage increase of 7 percent and a monthly grant of 170 euros for trainees. Union representative Bernd Löffler described the current offer of employers, which provides for a wage increase of only 1.7 percent in 2025, as "unacceptable". He criticized the too low scope of action by the employer and emphasized: "Whoever ties time now loses the future."
In the coming days, IG Metall plans to further increase the pressure, and a more extensive warning strike is not excluded. This week, companies such as General Dynamics, John Deere and Gebrüder Pfeiffer are also to go on strike. A large meeting in Mainz is expected on Thursday, where the union demands an “offer with substance” from the employers. The collective bargaining in the metal and electrical industry has been ongoing since September, and thousands have already resigned in over 100 German companies, reports www.rheinpfalz.de .
