Architecture walk: Discover Karlsruh's building history

The architecture of the city of Karlsruhe tells stories that go far beyond the mere buildings. It reflects the cultural identity and social changes over time. On Sunday, August 18, there is an opportunity to experience the past up close. Under the direction of Dr. Gerhard Kabierske begins an architecture walk that deals with the development of the city and its remarkable buildings.

dr. Kabierske will take the participants on a fascinating journey of discovery that not only presents the architectural masterpieces of Art Nouveau, but also illuminates their importance for today's Karlsruhe cityscape. The walk starts at 11 a.m. at the Stephanienstraße 94-96, directly opposite Kaiserplatz, and is said to take around an hour and a half. The special thing about this event is that participation is free and that prior registration is not necessary.

Special exhibition "Karlsruhe has plans!"

The walk is part of the special exhibition "Karlsruhe has plans! Treasury Building Act", which can be seen in the city museum until February 2, 2025. Visitors can feel the transience of the architecture up close by looking at the various uses of the buildings over the decades. The exhibition also addresses the devastating destruction during the Second World War and the subsequent reconstruction measures that have shaped the city.

multimedia experiences and personal stories

The city museum combines a variety of media in the exhibition, including original documents, historical photographs and models. These diverse offers promote active learning about the changeable history of architecture and their effects on the residents of the city. The personal stories of the house residents give the visitor more intimate access to the buildings, while interactive elements make learning more appealing.

The architecture walk and the accompanying special exhibition offer a valuable opportunity not only to honor the beauty of the Karlsruhe architecture, but also to understand their deeper stories and historical importance. At a time when many cities are confronted with the challenges of urbanization, a look back at the roots of the city architecture is particularly important.
