Heat action plan for Karlsruhe: Measures to protect vulnerable groups
Karlsruhe: Fight against the heat - joint efforts for health protection
The importance of heat protection is also present in this unusually rainy summer. At the sixth municipal health conference at the end of June, the topic "stay healthy in heat - measures for hot days in Karlsruhe" was the focus. Representatives of the city administration, local institutions and institutions from the health and social sector met to develop strategies together
Mayor Bettina Lisbach opened the conference with the indication that the city had already created a city map for hot days and was working on a heat action plan. The lack of measures in acute heat periods represented a challenge. The specialist Kathrine Norrmann from Walzbachtal sensitized the participants in their lecture on the effects of heat on health. She explained when heat can be dangerous from when and what countermeasures exist. Norrmann emphasized the importance of enlightenment, since many people are not aware of their belonging to risk groups.
Then Dr. Julia Hackenbruch and Teresa Ziegler from the environmental and occupational safety of the city of Karlsruhe the heat action plan, which includes preventive measures for various time horizons. In the working groups, the participants developed specific protective measures for vulnerable groups such as older people, children, pregnant women, people with health restrictions and homeless people. The results flow into the Karlsruhe heat action plan, for which a binding decision by the local council is sought.
This year's health conference was organized by the municipal health promotion of the city of Karlsruhe in cooperation with the "Plan ° C" project. Another step in the fight against extremely hot days and their effects on the health of the population.
