New pricing for Karlsruhe baths: what swimmers need to know about the tariff adjustment
The Karlsruhe baths are becoming more expensive: the price increase for the admissions causes discussions. Here are all important information for bathers.
New prices at the Karlsruhe baths
The plans for higher admission prices in the Karlsruhe baths become concrete. The local council will decide on this in July. What does that mean for visitors? Here are the planned tariff increases and when they should apply.
While the outdoor pool season is still running, the price increase is not to be expected for the time being. The planned tariff increases should only come into force from January 1 of next year. A regular single card for adults currently costs 5.50 euros. After adjustment, it will be six euros. The reduced tickets are also more expensive and from 3.70 euros to four euros.
Why do admission prices rise? There are several reasons according to the bathing director Oliver Sternagel. The high energy costs play a major role. The electricity, gas and district heating costs have increased significantly. The tariff financial statements in the public service also contribute to this. Despite the planned increase, the admission price of six euros will not be cost -covering, says Sternagel. The baths continue to record an annual deficit of five to six million euros.
to what extent does the deficit depend on the number of visitors and the weather? On beautiful summer days, the outdoor pools count up to 20,000 visitors. But the weather also strongly influences the number of visitors. However, the fixed costs remain constant, which leads to financial challenges. The prices in the Europabad and fan bath have already been increased while the Vierordtbad will follow soon.
What happens if someone cannot afford entry? There are various options to get a discount. Owners of the Karlsruhe Pass get a 50 percent discount on entry. Alternatively, there is the possibility of a season ticket or discounts on family and 911 cards. Admission in the Grötzingen indoor pool is even free of charge.
Have the prices been raised before? In 2022 there was already a price increase that was due to increased energy costs. The tariffs for individual entrances were raised by one euro.
