Public transport in Karlsruhe: Warning strike ensures chaos!

In the Karlsruhe area, there were failures and delays in light rail traffic on Monday after the ver.di union had proclaimed a warning strike in local public transport. Some city railways of the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) failed, but the effects at the Albtalbahnhof initially remained low, since the majority of employees did not take part in the strike. Jan Bleckert from ver.di said that driving was not badly affected, since mainly employees from car maintenance and workshops were on strike. Many light rail lines were able to drive regularly, and only a few AVG employees followed the strike call.

In Ettlingen,

at the same time there was a rally with around 50 strikers, which demonstrated in negotiations about a new railway collective agreement for higher wages and inflation compensation. The union demands 350 euros per month and an inflation compensation of 1,300 euros. Even at SWEG BUS GmbH in the Rhein-Neckar district, employees also laid down the work, especially for school buses, but bus traffic in Schwetzingen was not affected. The employers described the claims as excessive and offered only three percent more money. The negotiations will continue on November 11th.
