with the help of the population becomes more important: together against the Asian tiger mosquito

This year many people have to struggle with annoying mosquitoes, including the Asian tiger mosquito, which has established itself in the region. In order to clarify the population about this situation, a poster exhibition was opened in the city library in the new Ständehaus.

The fight against the tiger mosquito has become a permanent task, emphasized Mayor Bettina Lisbach. Despite previous successes, the tiger mosquito is spreading rapidly, which presents the municipal promotion community to combat the schnaken plague with new challenges. The Health Officer Dr. Brigitte Joggerst explained that the help of the population is decisive to keep the tiger mosquitoes away from settlement areas.

A new concept relies on the avoidance and elimination of breeding sites, since the tiger mosquito removes its eggs above water accumulation. Due to the dry resistance of the eggs, it is important that citizens keep potential breeding grounds such as rain barrels or old tires in view and eliminate them.

In order to recognize new populations early on, people can report conspicuous mosquitoes. The white scales on the hind legs and the silver-white strip over the head and neck shield are characteristic of the Asian tiger mosquito, which is smaller than a one-cent piece.

The joint commitment to the spread of the tiger mosquito shows how important the cooperation between citizens and authorities is to protect and preserve the health and quality of life of the community.
