Rescue action for amphibians: Karlsruhe protects cross toads and Co.!
As part of a species protection offensive, the city of Karlsruhe starts numerous measures to promote local amphibian populations in autumn 2024. The focus is on species that rely on regular habitat changes, an too common problem in our concrete landscape. As the city reports, many spawning waters have to be restored and overgrown habitats have to be uncovered in order to meet the needs of cross toads, changing toads and leaf frogs.
The work focuses on the Rüppurrer Salmenwiesen, the Weiherwald and the nature reserve "Erlachsee". Here, trees and excavation work are carried out and new water systems for comb newts and jumping frogs are created. Thanks to funding from the state and urban own funds, this project can be realized, whereby the implementation is accompanied by specialized specialist companies. More on this
