A devastating accident caused considerable traffic disruptions on July 11, 2024 at 4:08 p.m. on the A65 in Kandel, direction of travel Karlsruhe. The collision occurred between the Kandel-Mitte and Kandel-Süd junctions and led to an hour-long full closure of the highway towards Karlsruhe.

A Ukrainian truck driver was involved in the accident who, contrary to the regulations, paused in an emergency stop. A Lithuanian car transporter who properly drove the right lane could no longer prevent a collision than the truck driver carelessly threaded into the flowing traffic. A car, led by a 47-year-old woman, got into the middle course plank through an emergency braking and evasive maneuvers.
