Thinking new age limits: discrimination or necessary orientation?

The topic of age limits in our society and science heats the minds! The sociologists Professor Claudia Vogel from the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences and Professor Harald Künemund from the University of Vechta raise the alarm: age information after the calendar has long been outdated. When performing at the gerontology and geriatric congress in Kassel, they emphasize that rigid age limits often have a discriminatory effect and restrict individual freedom.

While legal age limits such as compulsory schooling or retirement, the experts also see the dark side: the experts can also lead to unequal treatment. Vogel and Künemund therefore call for a change of perspective - age limits should not simply be adopted, but questioned and designed flexibly! Instead of categorizing research results according to rigid age groups, relevant phenomena such as widowing or cognitive performance reduction should be in the foreground without relying on the calendar age.
